Cutting down the costs equals maximizing the profit

Rising competition and a sometimes malicious attitude between customer and supplier are leading to an increased awareness of cost and quality.

Cutting down the cost equals maximizing the profit. The main topic of the seminar is to show how to create a better cost awareness and how to minimize the expenses for energy and claims based on the principle of W. Edward Deming: “You can only manage what you’re able to measure.”

In this area of operation the different presentations will focus on general issues, like how to save energy and steam, but also on maintaining a constant weight of the fabric (especially important for knitted goods) and having a perfect straight fabric before printing, laminating or for the automotive industry.

Quality matters

Indonesia - Hub for international trade and commerce

With over 17,500 islands, trade has always been one of the main activities in Indonesia. Because of its geographical location in the triangle between Australia, China and India, Indonesia continues to be a centre and pivotal point for the exchange of all kinds of goods and services. As one of the most populous countries, textiles are at the top of the agenda. Just as many other producers, the Indonesian economy has also come to discover the benefits of high-quality and optimised production and is in the process of opening up to more efficient and value-added processes.

Conserving resources and optimising processes

It is especially this clientèle who will benefit from a symposium that will be conducted jointly by Mahlo and its representative DKSH at the end of February in Bandung and Surakarta (Solo). The key element of the presentation will focus on saving resources as well as optimising processes in the area of weft straighteners and quality control. Improved workflows and transparent technology steps not only improve quality but save hard cash.

Especially the individual customer benefit through the use of the Optipac process control system will be presented. By directly impacting energy and quality parameters, much money can be saved already in the short term by the targeted and manageable use of resources. In addition, the advantages of the thread and stitch count module Famacont PMC and the pattern detection and straightening unit Patcontrol PCS will be highlighted and discussed under the aspects of cost savings. Of course, the latest generation of the Orthopac weft straightener – especially used here for printing processes – will also be a topic of the presentations.

Saving costs and improving quality

Increasing competitive pressure, especially for companies who have originally grown with a cheap cost structure, leads to a stronger focus on quality issues. Different than cheap labour or borderline working conditions, such investments not only contribute to lowering costs, they also produce higher profits and better reputation, thus producing a triple advantage.

Ecopac EMC-15

Control system for drying processes

Ecopac EMC-15
Ecopac EMC-15

This modular system guarantees a quality product and optimization of the energy balance.

An Ecopac EMC monitors and controls essential fabric and process-related parameters such as residual moisture, fabric temperature and exhaust humidity on all kinds of dryers in the textile processing and finishing sectors.

An Ecopac EMC monitors these parameters simultaneously via a single, modular appliance, which can be flexibly adapted to meet the given monitoring and control requirements. It can accommodate up to 4 sensors according to choice.

Ecopac EMC is entirely microprocessor-controlled. Data is exchanged between Ecopac EMC and an external computer system (e.g. host-computer) via a wide range of interfaces (e.g. Profibus, TTY/RS232 etc.). The sensors are simply connected to the appliance via a single CAN-bus cable.

Famacont PMC-15

Thread / course counter

The Famacont PMC determines the thread density by means of a noncontacting,
optoelectronic process. It can count the picks or courses of even difficult materials. Suitable for controlling shrinkage processes.

Famacont PMC
Famacont PMC

Continuous and precise determination of the density of picks or knitted courses is an important factor in any effort to optimise the quality of the product during a textile finishing process.

The Famacont PMC is a reliable instrument which counts continuously the number of weft threads or knitted courses per unit length in order to check essential parameters such as the weight, stretch or shrinkage of a fabric. The Famacont PMC is thus an important tool to enable finishers to maintain the quality specifications of their customers and reduce the costs arising from rejects and impaired quality.

Product highlights Customer benefits
  • Non-contact and continuous counter
  • Determines thread or knit course density with the utmost accuracy using digital signal processing
  • Uses “smart” algorithmic
    feed forward control
  • High repeatability
  • Consistent residual shrinkage
  • Homogenous appearance of product

Patcontrol PCS-15

Pattern detection, skew correction, pattern repeat control

Patcontrol PCS-12
Patcontrol PCS-12

The leading pattern detection system using camera technology. The repetitions of printed, woven or tufted patterns are evaluated according to certain algorithms and are used for measuring, correcting and evaluating distortions and patterns.

The system uses one or two cameras, depending on the width of the product, to detect the position of the pattern and automatically and continuously determine the pattern repeat, as well as the product width, and together with a straightening machine align the product distortion based on the recognized pattern.

Alternative Types

It differs in accordance with the type of software analysis

  • Patcontrol PCS/PDS: (Pattern Distortion System) detects and controls bowed and skewed designs
  • Patcontrol PCS/PRS: (Pattern Repeat System) monitors and controls design repeat using various standardized patterns.
