The Qualiscan QMS can be used in virtually every industrial sector in which products are produced as a web, or where they are finished (laminated, coated, etc.). The versatile sensors and measuring devices of the Qualiscan QMS series can sense, log and continuously control such parameters as basis weight (weight per unit area), coating weight, thickness and moisture in a variety of web-type products.

The Qualiscan QMS is a modular system consisting of multiple measuring sensors and traversing frames acting as intelligent nodes on a network.

The individual components are linked through a normal Ethernet cable as found in any office for networking multiple PCs.

The network structure facilitates the integration of additional measurement sensors and scanners in the future.

The Qualiscan QMS is a modular system consisting of multiple measuring sensors and measurement frames acting as intelligent nodes on a network. Some frames can run up to five Mahlo sensors at once, continuously, precisely and rapidly across the online product.

The versatile sensors and measuring devices of the Qualiscan QMS series can sense, log and continuously control such parameters as weight per unit area (basis weight), coating weight, thickness and moisture in a variety of web-type products.

Measuring frames

Universal application

The measuring frame traverses the sensors on-line across the whole product width and provides a cross-machine direction profile of basis weight, thickness or moisture on the display console that is a crosssection of the manufactured product.

One or more different measuring frames can be connected to a Qualiscan QMS system. Connection is made via a normal network cable, a standard 230/115 V source supplies the power.

Selcuk Iplik, member of the Kara holding group, is a Nonwoven production facilty which produces airlaid and spunlace Nonwoven products. Health care, hygene and disposable special materials are produced by Karweb and shipped specially firstly to Europe,USA and also to the rest of the world.

On the new spunlace plant mixtures of the fibers like polyester, viscose, tencel, cotton and polyamide can be processed. The spunlace line, in operation since 2017, is quality controlled by a Mahlo Qualiscan QMS system which measures basis weight and moisture at the outlet.

Qualiscan QMS for nonwovens production
At a spunlace plant, product speeds of several hundred meters per minute can be achieved. For the Quality control you need a high performance system like the Qualiscan QMS from Mahlo.
Non-woven material quality control: O-frame Webpro M
The measuring frames from Mahlo traverse the sensors quickly and accurately on precision linear guides in uninterrupted continuous operation precisely across the web. The result is a cross-section of basis weight, thickness or moisture of the product, represented graphically on the touchscreen display.
Moisture measurement of nonwoven fabric: Infralot IMF
Infralot IMF uses optical evaluation of the absorbed/reflected light energy in the near-infrared range to continuously measure and control material moisture on-line. The sensor is also available on one side for reflection mode.
Qualiscan QMS measuring frame Webpro M
WebPro M traversing scanners are legendary for their robust construction and superior reliability providing a low cost of ownership. O-frames of this type can handle products of up to 4 meters in width with up to a total of 3 different measurement sensors. Their compact design and ultra-precise traverse mechanisms enable them to be installed even where space is at a premium and at any angle to suit the given product/web flow.
Basis weight measurement on nonwoven fabric: Gravimat DFI
Gravimat DFI (at the rear, Infralot IMF Sensor at the front) in a Webpro M measuring frame on a Nonwoven-Spunlace-Line.

The beta sensor measures grammage and material thickness by means of isotope rays. Complete insensitivity to web flutter throughout the entire measurement gap thanks to the DFI technology (Dynamic Flutter Independent). Thus smallest beta sources achieve their highest measurement performance.
Basis weight and moisture measurement in nonwoven fabric
Basis weight and humidity influence the function of nonwoven products as critical process parameters. With the Qualiscan QMS, here with the measuring frame Webpro M, which carries up to 3 sensors, precise longitudinal and transverse profiles of the web can be measured and logged. Thus the production plant can be controlled as well.
Quality control in nonwoven production
Due to the traversing measuring frame of the Qualiscan QMS, precise cross-direction (CD) and machine-direction (MD) profiles of parameters such as basis weight, thickness or humidity can be created.

These are clearly displayed in the operating software of the Mahlo system on a touchscreen (at the front). All entries are made directly on the touchscreen using large, ergonomic buttons. Operation is simple and intuitive. All the key information is visible at a glance.
